By unanimous decision, the Griffins Head, Chillenden was voted our Branch Winter Pub of the Season. With its wood beamed and tiled interior with inglenook fireplace it's a great place to hide away from the winter weather.

The other nominations were: Freed Man, Walmer; Ship Inn, Deal and Louis Armstrong, Dover.

Whether you are an individual or a business have you considered sponsoring a barrel of beer at our Winter Ales Beer Festival (1st-2nd February 2019).

Beer Festival sponsorship represents a great opportunity either for an individual to support this fantastic local community event, or a business to promote themselves to a wide and diverse audience over two fantastic real ale days.

A Sponsorship Package costs £75 and includes two complimentary tickets to the festival, 2 souvenir glasses and eight half-pint beer tokens. Your sponsorship will be noted in the festival programme as well as above the cask of beer you sponsored.

Firstly, we'd like to congratulate the Leather Bottle, Mongeham and the Breakwater Brewery Tap, Dover on becoming LocAle accredited. These pubs have been recognised as serving good quality real ale from local breweries.

We've also heard that the Eagle Tavern, Dover, is now serving real ale.

Calling all CAMRA members. We're looking for nominations for our Branch Winter Pub of the Season.

So if you'd like to propose your pub not just for good real ale but as being a great place to visit in the cold winter months then email pots@camra-dds.org.uk.

Please include your name; your membership number; the pub's name and a brief reason why it deserves to win this award.

The winner will be announced at our branch meeting on Monday, 19th November, at The Salvation, Deal.

We are proud to announce that The Lanes, Worthington Street, Dover, has won the CAMRA Kent Pub of the Year 2018.

We'd like to congratulate Debbie on Keith on winning this award and wish them all the best as they progress to the Super-Regional Round of the Pub of the Year competition.

The runner-up was The Past & Present, Gillingham.

Following recent branch meetings we've a couple of awards to announce:

A special award of "Exceptionally Improved Pub" has been awarded to Dayle and Donna Melody at The Farrier, Deal in recognition of the work they have done in revitalising the pub to the great community pub it is today. The date of the presentation has to be arranged.

Summer Pub of the Season 2018 has been awarded to Michelle and Kevin Abbott at the Anchor Inn, Wingham. Presentation of the certificate will take place during our Summer Outing on Thursday, 16th August.

Finally, we'd like to congratulate the Crown & Sceptre, Dover on winning Shepherd Neame's Heart of the Community 2018 award.

We've just received fantastic news.

The Lanes, Dover is the winner of CAMRA's East Kent Pub of the Year Competition 2018.

The runners up were (in alphabetical order): Admiral's Arm, Queenborough; The Bowl, Hastingleigh; New Inn, Canterbury; Two Halves, Margate.

Congratulations to Keith and Debbie who now go through to the Kent Pub of the Year competition.

West Kent Pub of the Year is: Past & Present, Gillingham. Runners up were (in alphabetical order): Bell & Jorrocks, Frittenden; George, Tunbridge Wells; Old House, Ightham Common.

images/cpoty2018thumb.jpg During our recent Cider Trail, we presented Chris Barnes at the Berry, with his Branch Cider Pub of the Year certificate. Click on the image to see a large version.

Our Regional Cider Coordinator has now told us that Chris went on to win the East Kent Cider Pub of the Year. So another great accolade to Chris and all the staff at The Berry.

However, Chris didn't win the Kent Cider Pub of the Year, coming runner-up to the Cellars Alehouse, Maidstone.

Well done to both pubs and best wishes to the Cellars Alehouse as it makes its way through the next rounds of CAMRA's National Cider Pub of the Year.
